Building an ecological and economical house in Brittany: Polimmo La Maison solutions

Why build an ecological house in Brittany? Whatever the region, the French are increasingly aware of their impact on the environment, and are prepared to do their bit for the planet by choosing to build an environmentally-friendly house, for example. Brittany is no exception, and it's possible to build a house that's both ecological and economical. Polimmo La Maison explains everything.

Why build a ecological house ?

Firstly, to protect the environment, of course, but also because an ecological house is also an economical house! There is no official definition of a typical ecological house, but it is often built from local and natural materials, and uses renewable energy sources such as solar power or geothermal energy. Finally, its design takes into account the topography of the land and its climatic environment. You can't build a house in the Bouches du Rhône in the same way as in Finistère. So there are many advantages to a green home: it consumes less energy, has a low carbon impact and provides good thermal comfort.

The importance of environmental regulations RE2020

However, while not all new homes can be built to this model, builders are still required to apply the RE2020 environmental regulations from 1 January 2022. According to the French Ministry of the Ecological Transition and Solidarity, these regulations cover the following areas:

  • reducing the climate impact of new buildings
  • improving energy performance and reducing consumption
  • the construction of housing adapted to future climatic conditions
  • ensuring good indoor air quality in homes
  • the use of re-used products

Polimmo La Maison, like all builders, applies the RE2020 environmental regulations and also holds quality labels and certifications that enable it to offer eco-friendly homes to its customers.

The BBC (Bâtiment Basse Consommation) label

This quality label is awarded to new buildings or renovations that consume very little energy. It covers a number of measures, such as ventilation, airtightness, heating, insulation, etc. A building with the Bâtiment Basse Consommation label guarantees a high level of comfort and energy savings for its occupants.

The BBC label requires new residential buildings to consume no more than 50 kWh per square metre per year. The energy consumed includes heating, hot water, air conditioning, ventilation and lighting.

Polimmo La Maison designs homes that comply with the BBC label.

HQE (High Environmental Quality) certification

The single-family homes built by Polimmo La Maison are HQE-certified. This is defined by 4 commitments:

  • reducing CO2 emissions
  • optimising energy consumption
  • improving occupant comfort (acoustics, air quality, light)
  • the use of sustainable and recyclable materials.

To obtain HQE certification, the building must meet 14 criteria grouped under the following headings: energy, environment, health and comfort.
